Renew Your Connection with God
The Sabbath was instituted by God as a day of rest and worship (Genesis 2:2–3, Exodus 20:8–11). Pause from worldly activities and focus on spiritual communion while deepens your relationship with God.

Rest is not just spiritual—it’s biological and emotional. Give your body and mind a break from continuous work and stress. Reduce burnout and restore energy. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
The Sabbath helps re-center life around what truly matters. Refocus on relationships—with God, family, and others—rather than constant busyness. “Then he said to them, ‘The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.’” Mark 2:27
Life is loud. Busy. Constant.
But God built a rhythm into creation for your good—a day to breathe again.
The Sabbath restores your body and mind.
It lowers stress, lifts your mood, and gives you space to pause.
We weren’t made to run nonstop.
Once every seven days, God invites us to stop…
and rest.
We often say, “One day I’ll slow down… one day I’ll spend more time with family… one day I’ll draw closer to God.”
Sabbath turns “one day” into this day.
A day for conversation.
A day for worship.
A day for being fully present.
The Sabbath prioritizes what matters most—
every single week.
All week long, your phone buzzes with reminders.
Your mind races.
Errands. Emails. Expectations.
But Sabbath says:
“You don’t have to carry everything today.”
Work stops.
Pressure pauses.
You get permission to just be.
Sabbath is God’s way of protecting you from burnout.
The Sabbath isn’t just a day off—it’s time with Someone.
It’s space to hear God’s voice again.
To read Scripture without rushing.
To pray without watching the clock.
To worship in community.
To feel God’s peace settle over your life.
Jesus calls the Sabbath “a delight.”
And when we spend it with Him, it truly is.
Research confirms what Scripture has shown for thousands of years:
Regular rest improves emotional well-being.
The Sabbath gives you:
Quiet for reflection
Time in nature
Space to decompress
Emotional clarity
Perspective for the week ahead
Sabbath is God’s built-in antidote to anxiety and exhaustion.
Every Sabbath whispers truth into your life:
“You are more than your job.
More than your accomplishments.
More than your productivity.
You are Mine.”
Sabbath reminds us of who God is—and who we are in Him.
It centers us in grace, not performance.
It also points to hope: a future where rest, joy, and peace will last forever.
From the very beginning of Scripture, the Sabbath appears as God’s weekly gift of rest, renewal, and relationship. After creating the world, God rested on the seventh day, blessed it, and set it apart as holy (Genesis 2:1–3). The Sabbath wasn’t introduced as a rule but as part of the rhythm of life God intended for all humanity.
Throughout the Old Testament, God reminded His people that the Sabbath was a sign of His love, His creation power, and His desire to be in relationship with them (Exodus 20:8–11; Ezekiel 20:12). It was a weekly invitation to stop, breathe, remember who God is, and enjoy the world He made.
Jesus honored the Sabbath as a day to do good, bring healing, lift burdens, and draw people closer to God (Mark 2:27–28; Luke 4:16). He didn’t abolish the Sabbath—He restored it to its original purpose: a blessing, not a burden.
The early believers continued to keep the seventh-day Sabbath (Acts 13:14, 42–44; Acts 16:13). For them, Sabbath was a joyful reminder of both creation and redemption, pointing to God as Creator, Savior, and Sustainer.
Today, the Sabbath still stands as a weekly invitation to:
Rest from the pressure and pace of life
Reconnect with God
Strengthen relationships with family and community
Celebrate God’s goodness and His work in our lives
The seventh-day Sabbath is woven through the Bible as a gift from God—a day that anchors us in His love, His presence, and His purpose.
When we understand what we’re celebrating and how to celebrate it, the Sabbath becomes the central focus of the week. It is the jewel of the entire week, a day full of promise, joy, and fulfillment. Author Céleste Perrino shows you how to capture the joy in “Making Sabbath Special.”
Our bodies and souls were created to rest—regularly—and when they do, we experience heightened productivity, improved health, and more meaningful relationships. Senator Joe Lieberman shows how his observance of the Sabbath has not only enriched his personal and spiritual life but also enhanced his career and enabled him to serve his country to his greatest capacity.
This resource is a seven-part message series that looks at the seventh-day Sabbath. It begins with creation, when God created the Sabbath and explores principles of the day through scriptures. This series explores not only the purpose and meaning of the Sabbath but also challenges us to observe and celebrate this amazing gift from God.
